Stock Gear for PVP
Being the game is supposed to be more about skill, why isn't the gear available for competitive PVP matches set to stock options. This would really make everyone on an even playing field and make matches fair. They can give as many options as they want for armor and weapons, but disallow characters from PVE to bring their own armor and weapons into the matches, at least for matches like GVG. They could leave some PVP matches for open gear like Arena, or Tombs or even a separate ladder for GVG.
This way PVE people can use their gear in PVE and some PVP competitions, but the real competitive PVP is govered with these restrictions to make sure the matches are fair. They could still offer tons of different weapons to choose from, so people could go with different strategies for the team builds, but in the end everyone would have the same options available to them, and the winner of the match would win because of skill, not because they had better equipment.

I dont really agree with this... i mean in GvG matches i think that you should be able to use any gear. I know i wont be a major PvP player, i love PvE tho so i had planned to just become a sort of supplier of items for my guild. Help them when they need it and that sort of thing, and although i dont really like PvP as much as PvE i am still gonna participate in GvG matches just to help the guild, if this was implemented then the PvE players would really have no reason to hunt for better gear.. I mean PvE is already simple enough with alittle thought and a good party we dont need godly items for PvE, but in PvP they could make all the difference. Furthermore, skill and teamwork are still the deciding factors for a victory, items may help but if one team has godly items and the other had mediocre gear, but the mediocre items team has better tactics/strategy then they will still come out on top... Items help, but they cant win it for you..

Am PvE and I don't agree..go figure
Nope. Part of the fabric of the game. If you don't take into account whatever random qualities there are in it, (varying players and the armour they wear) and have just set standards for what each character type is wearing, you are taking half the strategy away from it. You would ALWAYS know EXACTLY what everyone has for use and could easily counter it to a point of not having to think about it. (less skill when you know what everybody uses)
That's the whole point of the "skill" involved. You don't know what they wear or use... or skills they use. The more you have as standard, the more you take away from the skill. It ends up as carbon copy setup and execution. (or executions )
not even something I MYSELF would want.

I dont see this working out. You NEED to have customization beyond simply fine tuning skills for reasons that have already been put forth. Many people like finding items and showing them off, what better place to do so than in PVP. You'll also find that by standardizing PVP to such an extent (it is by far fair and balanced enough as is) you'll have alot less fun, and with so many people come retail, any character combo you choose will feel somewhat generic.
In fact I am hoping that ArenaNet will add even more items and gear to give more flavour to PVP battles. Actually they ARE doing this, but more couldnt hurt in my opinion.

I'd quit if this happened. If I spend 40 hours playing a character and getting my own unique equipment, I want to use it in PvP. I don't even give a crap if your equipment is better, mine would show how important I was. The point isn't to make the game a match of "Pong", where everyone gets the same equipment and skill restrictions, the point is to be challenged by new and exciting feats.
